Who Should Apply

Each year Act Six recruits diverse, multicultural cadres of Washington's most promising emerging urban and community leaders. The Initiative seeks young people who want to use their college education to make a difference on campus and in their communities at home. Act Six scholars must be:

• passionate about learning
• eager to foster intercultural relationships
• willing to step out of their comfort zones
• committed to serving those around them
• ready to make a difference on campus and at home

The selection process also places high value on applicants’:

• teamwork
• critical thinking
• communication skills
• academic potential

For Fall 2010, Act Six will select approximately 25 scholars from Tacoma-Seattle for PLU, Northwest, Gonzaga and Trinity Lutheran.  In Spokane, roughly 14 scholars will be selected for Whitworth and Gonzaga.  In Yakima, approximately 10 scholars will be selected for Heritage. Selected scholars will enroll as freshmen in fall 2011.

Applicants must be high school seniors planning to graduate in 2011 or must have previously graduated from high school in 2009 or 2010.  Students currently enrolled at four-year colleges, including partner colleges, are not eligible to apply.

While ethnicity and family income are considered as factors in selecting an intentionally diverse group of scholars, there are no income restrictions, and students from all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Are You Eligible?

If you can answer "yes" to all of the following questions, you can apply for Act Six this year:

• Do you love your community and want to use your college education to make a difference as a leader on campus and at home?
• Will you graduate from high school in 2011, or did you graduate previously in 2009 or 2010?
• Do you live in one of the following regions and desire to attend one of the college partners listed for that region?
  • Tacoma-Seattle (PLU, Northwest, Gonzaga, Trinity Lutheran)
  • Yakima Valley (Heritage)
  • Spokane (Whitworth, Gonzaga)
• Are you not currently enrolled in a four-year college?
