

Scholar Success
Act Six scholars are succeeding and thriving on campus and in their communities at home. More than 90% of scholars who began the program are still enrolled or graduated, and scholar surveys show high levels of satisfaction with personal, academic and overall Act Six experience.
Even more, Act Six scholars are engaging and demonstrating leadership all across the campus and in their home communities. The following provide just a sampling:
Holy Chea, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.A. Communication), works as program assistant at Northwest Leadership Foundation's ProTeen Evening Center, providing positive alternatives to detention for court-involved youth in Tacoma.
Lauren Thompson, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.A. Elementary Education), advocates for students at her alma mater, Henry Foss High School, as a College Bound instructor for Metropolitan Development Council.
Bobby Walston, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.A. Political Studies), promotes college access for local students as an admissions counselor at Pacific Lutheran University.
Nissana Nov, Whitworth Cadre Two Graduate (B.A. Cross-Cultural Studies, magna cum laude), served as the president of the International Club and was named a Weyerhaeuser Scholar in the Sociology and Political Science departments.
Luan Ly, Whitworth Cadre Two Graduate (B.A. International Business, cum laude), studied business in Chongqing, China and completed internships at World Vision and the Port of Tacoma.
Obe Quarless, Whitworth Cadre Three Music Education Major, was elected president of the Associated Students of Whitworth University (ASWU) for 2008-09. He is the second Act Six scholar to serve as ASWU president in the last three years.
Vi Nguyen, Whitworth Cadre Three Arts Administration and Graphic Design Major, served as ASWU campus activities coordinator as well as a student representative on the university's Intercultural Relations Committee.
Emmanuel Bofa, Whitworth Cadre Four Communication Major, was national champion in the 800 meter dash at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Yong Kim, Whitworth Cadre Five Journalism Major, served as a staff writer for the Whitworthian campus newspaper and secured a summer internship with the LA Times.
Sha'Nay McQuirter, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.A. Sociology), founded and directed Exceptional Praise, Whitworth's first student-led gospel choir.
Tara Yi, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.A. Biology), volunteered with YoungLife to mentor at-risk teens in Spokane and lead a summer day camp in Prague, Czech Republic.
Victoria Trang, Mary Bulega and Yazmin Valdes, Whitworth Cadre Two Graduates (B.S. Nursing), signed agreements with MultiCare Health System to return to Tacoma for summer internships and full-time nursing positions upon graduation.
Sarah Rim, Whitworth Cadre One Graduate (B.S. Biology, magna cum laude), is a research coordinator and lab technician for a diabetes research project at Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She begins Physician Assistant school at Methodist University in fall 2009.
