Themes and Content

Beginning in February, Act Six cadres meet together weekly for two-hour training sessions throughout the remainder of the school year. In addition, the cadres participate in week-end retreats, campus visits and a week-long summer expedition before heading to campus as freshmen in the fall.

The Act Six training program revolves around the following seven themes:

Vision

  • identifying and aligning with our core values
  • development of personal vision and mission

Leadership

  • Christian motivations for and perspectives on leadership
  • effective communication and collaboration
  • dynamics of personal and organizational change

Service

  • Christian motivations for and perspectives on service
  • service project design, planning, and implementation
  • connecting individual gifts and passions with community needs

Diversity

  • understanding and communicating across differences
  • exploring race dynamics in America and on the college campus
  • Christian motivations for and perspectives on racial justice and reconciliation
  • identity formation in a multicultural environment

Community

  • trust-building and nurturing of authentic relationships
  • acknowledging and supporting individual strengths and weaknesses
  • understanding group dynamics and the stages of community development
  • frameworks for thinking about community development

Preparation

  • critical reading, writing, and discussion skill development
  • learning style analysis and college study strategies
  • time and money management
  • anticipating and addressing the personal and social challenges of campus life

Transformation

  • dynamics of personal and organizational change
